Interesting Trivia For You

For anyone that watches comedy central at all, you may have noticed the current commercial for Reno 911. It has a really intense song playing while the voiceover and action is going on.

That song is the main theme to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, by Harry Gregson-Williams. It's just a snippet, but it leads into my favorite part of the song where the really low electronic bass begins (Awesome to hear when you have a sweet sound system to listen with). The song is amazingly composed. This section is like being in a gunfight, the way it is arranged and performed... It really draws you into the whole concept of the story.

I have never heard a song on TV that originated on a video game before (excluding movies and TV based on video games, like this little gem here) but this particular snippet of song doesn't have any melody since it is just drum sound, which I guess would explain how it is easy to rip off for your advertisements.

Or buy, whatever, I don't know how the business goes down. :D

Anywho, I don't have much else to say so there you go.

Rejoice! For I have created a new blog entry!

Today, and I mean yesterday for you non-vampires (I've been up since 5 PM and it is now about 8 AM), I earned (and I use that term loosely) 89 dollars by trading in my old video games that I never play to Gamestop. With that PHAT CASH I will be purchasing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots with a few dollars left over towards a new controller.

Let me tell you how much MGS4 will rock.

THIS FRIGGEN MUCH! (LARGEST FONT SIZE AVAILABLE, THAT'S HOW MUCH!)

It has so far gotten mostly perfect glowing reviews by everyone that has played it. I played the Online Beta and was fairly impressed. Basically, I want you all to know that I will not be leaving my room for any reason except to wee wee and eat (IF I eat).

Anyway, I'm just a little excited. It has been several years of waiting for me (10 years. Fans of the series have waited 10 years for answers to questions asked in Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation.) and I look forward to having a good cry as my favorite characters and their stories come to an end.

See, I get really involved with people and characters. I do it in real life and in the fiction that I read or watch or play. I relate with people fairly well, and when characters are put into entertainment through some medium (film, writing, games) I tend to relate to them as well. It is somewhat devastating to be cut off suddenly from people that you empathize with, fictional or no. When I finish a good book or game, I tend to get super depressed because the story is over and I can't live it with them step-by-step anymore. The feeling is exactly the same as totally falling in love with someone and suddenly being out of contact with them for a few days when you REALLY REALLY want to talk to them or just be with them. Can't get it off your mind...

So anyway, weird storm is brewing outside. There was a power surge that dimmed the lights and turned off my sound system here in my room, but didn't trip the breaker on the surge outlet so my TV and Computer stayed on. Some blue sky is just now poking through the clouds. I think I'll go to bed now.

I'm not dead

I normally update every day, but I missed out the last two days because my internet has been down. I'm not dead, and my plane didn't wreck, and my car didn't break down. I AM tired though and my back aches at the moment, so I'll do more update later.

This is it for Wyoming

This is my last night in Wyoming, possibly forever. I know I say that all melodramatically, but it isn't entirely unlikely. Unless I come back to help my parents move, then I'm never coming back. I have no reason to really as all of my friends have left and gone on to new things, or will be shortly. Who knows where life will take me now, and who cares?

I had a really good day today. I spent most of it with my ex. We went to Rock Springs, had our order taken by Bruce Lee (he screwed up our order. Dude's losing it.) and then window shopped at a few places. We finished up by watching Baby Mama. Michael McCullers can really write a good script. The story had a nice arc and good character development in addition to being quite funny. It was all around good. Will I buy it? meh, I don't buy many comedies because the jokes stop being super funny after the first view or two. Maybe if i find it on sale.

I spent the last two hours out in the mud with my brother and sister, building a fire. I felt like we really had a bonding night. We all talked about our plans for the future, our religious beliefs, our political ideals, everything that you aren't supposed to talk about with family. I'm an incredibly lucky/blessed/whathaveyou guy to have such an awesome family. We get along seemingly better than most families and we have some of the coolest conversations ranging from lessons on the purpose and use of a bong, to step by step instructions on how to get out of the military, to simply thanking my parents for giving us good genes (We know we were all mistakes, Mom, but you did a good job anyway. Stop trying to drive the point home.)

Now though, I'm going to just relax and fall asleep to some AWESOME, TASTEFUL, AND ALTOGETHER INFORMATIVE MALE ENHANCEMENT INFOMERCIALS.

Plans for the future

I've always wanted to travel, but when you grow up in poverty, having trouble making ends meet, it's hard to scrounge up the money to get out and see the world. I've always made a point to exploring everything I could within walking distance. For instance, there is an awesome bluff, pond, and field just behind my parent's house here in Lyman. I spent so much time back there, exercising, practicing martial arts, swordfighting little kids, and getting attacked by horses... good memories.

But past that bluff, which is about a half-mile away, it gets too far to walk and really enjoy the sights. Don't get me wrong, I can walk forever if need be (I planned to walk across the state of Wyoming last summer and was training for it) but eventually your feet start to hurt and your mind starts to wander. Anyway, I'm trailing away from the point--

When my uncle picked me up from the airport the other day, we discussed places to live. He dislikes the dry climate in Utah, and loves the Washington state area. I really enjoy the humid warm area I live in in Kansas right now, but I know I'll miss the mountains before long. I mentioned that I would like to one day backpack across Europe. The idea just sounds awesome to me. My uncle suggested Brazil because the dollar is stronger and I won't go broke just from trying to eat. I gave it some thought, and it sounds more and more appealing as time goes on.

So, my tentative plans right now are four things:

1) Learn some Portuguese and Spanish. If I put my mind to it and practice every day with Rosetta Stone and some books, I'll be good.
2) Learn more Self Defense. I will not be taken advantage of.
3) Save some money. I only have a few things that I have projected money for in the next 6 months: Metal Gear Solid 4, a trip to Pennsylvania to meet with friends, and another trip to Missouri, then perhaps money to fix my car (if it breaks down soon, which it might.)
4) Get a passport. Duh.

And that's it. Perhaps I'll have a friend to travel with, but I'm not particularly bothered by going alone. I just need to set my mind to it and GO.

Cracked.com Blog Circle and my night's events

If you look a little to your right (more or less, depending on your monitor size and resolution) you will see a new sidebar section with links to other blogs. Take a look through them if you like, you might find something worth reading. The Silly Addiction is written by Tim Cameron, who is a delightfully funny and very talented musician. Northside Food is a blog about food, which I assume descends from a higher latitude than it is eaten in. The blog also has the exact same layout as my own. Crazy, eh? Kybard and The Dolby Apposition are both written by fellas who enjoy writing real stories and such, rather than the emo crap that I put out.

So, tonight I watched I Am Legend again, except with the alternate ending. I'm slightly torn with both endings. The Theatrical version completely tossed out everything they led up to, and took a steamy deuce on the book, but at the same time [spoiler alert] Robert dies [end spoiler], which is always a plus for me when I see a good tragedy.

However, the alternate ORIGINAL ending preserves the book's ending and keeps all of the little nuances intact for the conclusion, but it is awfully feel-good, perhaps too feel-good for my tastes. I think that if they reshot the original ending a bit, tied some scenes together a bit and maybe drew it out a little more, it would be best, but unfortunately we seem to be stuck with two incomplete rushed endings.

Also tonight, I ran into my old friend's ex-girlfriend and her new husband. The dude and I have always gotten along, but I've never really liked his bride. She's... not the type of person I like? I don't know how to say it without being painfully blunt: I think she's a total idiot. We do not see eye to eye on anything and I find her to be superficial. Not the point, anyway, she just got married to this old acquaintance of mine and I ran into both of them tonight. We had a nice conversation. I will never see them again most likely, so it is, in a way, bittersweet. On one hand, I'm always anxious and nervous to have to meet new people, but on the other hand, I don't want to see many of the people I know ever again. Naw, that's too harsh. It's not that I don't ever want to see some of these people again, it's just that we aren't heading toward any type of future where we'll be best of friends. If I were to live in this town for the rest of my life, I would never quite have the friends that I did in middle and high school. They're moving on, most of them, and I need to as well. So, best of luck to the newlyweds (Chuck, if you keep peeing on her in the shower it's not going to last very long, I promise.) and best of luck to the people I will miss.

Back "home"

Well, here I am, back in Lyman. The flight was a total nightmare. Turns out Kansas City is more than 2 hours from Newton. It's more like 3, and then when you get hit by a MASSIVE thunderstorm, it takes about 3.5 hours. So, I missed my initial flight and I was set to go on a flight to Phoenix that connected to Salt Lake, but that flight was delayed a lot from the wind, lightening and rain, that I would have missed my connection, so they rescheduled me to go to Denver at 11:05. So I spent 5 hours at the airport, then I finally got on the plane and we ended up being delayed in the air and couldn't land. I vomited into the little barf-bag while we were taxi-ing into the terminal, and then I had to run to get on to the connecting flight (because of our in-air delay, I barely barely barely made it on the Salt Lake flight). I didn't have time to get any dramamine, so I was sick on the whole flight to Utah. It was just a nightmare.

So, Holly, my sister, graduated tonight. I'm proud of her and I hope she knows it. The cake I lugged around between Kansas and Wyoming was quite delicious when we finally dug in.

Indiana Jones is a decent flick. That is all.

Flying home

I'm flying home at 6:30 AM Central time tomorrow. I'm ascared.

That is all.

"omg, today, this sexy mofo Cheezee PMed me, and told me this fantasitc story... i think i'm in looove with him"

I have a friend in Germany that I regularly chat with. We share a common interest in spirituality and metaphysics. You see, we study the Norse Runes. We'd like to consider ourselves "Vitki" (Norse Magicians) but perhaps we are not involved enough as it stands.

The Norse culture was very fascinating, and perhaps moreso now because when the Christian revolution entered northern Europe, most of the texts and artifacts from the region were destroyed because they were "blasphemous." Sadly, we will never know exactly what we lost, and we'll never quite know all there is to know about the culture.

Still though, there are a few dedicated scholars and magicians that are intent to unlock some of those secrets. Perhaps through some spiritual experience we may learn a bit more about them. If not, at least we learn to understand an ancient and extinct culture.

At my old house I had a meditation room set up in the spare bedroom. I had runes set up on all four walls to fill the area with peace and clarity. It freaked alot of people out when they went in there because apparently I was worshipping satan. All those satanic symbols, ya know. I love how people jump to the first stereotypical conclusion they can when they encounter something unusual.

Craigslist Shenanigans

Craigslist is a neat little website where you can find stuff that people want to sell or give away. The site has grown a bit over the years and they have added a personals section. Under the section called "Casual Encounters" you will find some of the funniest writing the internet has to offer. I wouldn't recommend clicking that link if you are offended by the sometimes extremely desperate sexual talk that lies within.

Anyway, I've been reading through them a bit and laughing my butt off. I decided to adventure, and reply to a couple of them. I have yet to receive a reply, which saddens me. All I said was:

Subject: Hiya!

Message: I have a Raccoon, a cake, an egg-beater, and some laxatives. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO MEET?!

Poor girls don't know what they're missing.

Speed Racer, Bruce Lee, and Aging Hips

I went on a walk today. Not a jog, cause I'm a wuss, but a walk. I think I made it about 5 miles round-trip, which trashed my hip. I guess my left leg is shorter than my right, or at least my spine is crooked enough to make some kind of distinction. About 3/4 of the way through my journey my leg started to ache, and by the time I got back to my bedroom I was done walking for awhile. This wouldn't have happened if I had kept up my usual walking routine, but the way winter was back in Lyman this year I couldn't keep anything up. ZING!

So, while I was on my walk, I passed by Walmart, and cut across the parking lot to get downtown. I saw Christian Slater pushing carts with a yellow little safety vest on. He has a sunburn and it appears that meth abuse has damaged his teeth. Still slicks his hair back stylishly though, which is comforting.

While I'm speaking of obscure celebrities, Bruce Lee works at a Chinese restaurant in Rock Springs, Wyoming. It's called The Wonderful House, and it is the only good thing about Rock Springs, Wyoming. I had some delightful Cherry Chicken there once, and another time I had Sesame Chicken that was probably the best Sesame Chicken I've ever had, and I've eaten at just about every Chinese restaurant in Wyoming. Bruce has aged well, but his hairline has receded significantly. He also appears to have lost the ability to speak English properly, but hey, it's Rock Springs. I'm not surprised.

Lastly, I saw Speed Racer tonight. I already wrote a bit about it and posted it at Cracked.com so I'll just link to it. It it it it it it it. If you say "it" over and over you say funny words.

Dungeons and Dragons, death and exercise

I took this dorky little test today...

I Am A:
Chaotic Good Human Sorcerer (3rd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-12

Dexterity-15

Constitution-14

Intelligence-15

Wisdom-17

Charisma-15

Alignment:
Chaotic Good A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit. However, chaotic good can be a dangerous alignment because it disrupts the order of society and punishes those who do well for themselves.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

I'd say it's fairly accurate. I don't play D&D often (ever) but I have played Baldur's Gate, which is basically D&D with a storyline. My favorite class was the sorcerer because he could cast one spell like, 6 times a day if he felt like it. The other magical classes could only cast once or twice a day, which was lame.

In other news, my uncle passed away two days ago. I only met him once that I remember, and he was a very kind and generous person. I wrecked my car not far from his home and he drove out at 3:00 AM to pick me up and give me a place to stay until I could get home. At the time he was almost completely blind and he kept driving his car with the help of his wife. All she did was tell him when he was doing something dangerous. He could pretty much tell how he was doing otherwise. Anyway, I guess now that he's dead he has a better grasp of how thankful I am for his generosity. Too late to pay him back. The best I can do now is pay it forward, which I'm sure would do him the honor he deserves.

Now though, I seriously need to start exercising again. I've become so lethargic and inactive that my joints and back are aching and becoming stiff. I've spent enough time scolding myself and getting frustrated at how lazy I've become so now I'm going to simply go for a jog.

Awesomesauce

First, watch that. Awesome. That sends me back to my days playing Super Mario World with my cousins. My cousin Heather and I would play until it was absurdly late at night, then we'd get up and go to church or something the next morning bright and early, then sleep through church and such. Then maybe after church we would go on dorky little adventures and play Power Rangers until my mom came to pick us up to go home that night. Simpler times.

Hello

I've given in to the lucrative world of blogging once reserved for lonely housewives, emo kids, and existential philosophers.

I also managed to take the most sexually misleading picture in the history of the world. It needs more manly... let's see...
